How do you break the generational cycle of abuse? Growing up in Oakland CA, raised in a Christian home as a preacher’s kid, La'Trae Wilson was not sheltered from the realities of life. La'Trae talks openly and honestly how she got involved with many abusive men, including the father of her autistic son. We remember how "Just Say No To Drugs" the 80's slogan affected our lives, and discuss how we can talk to our kids about sex, drugs, and making good choices. Come and hear her story of her high risk pregnancy, how her son stopped breathing several times, and the miracle of his life. This is Part One of a Two Part Series.

Hollywood and pop culture often give us the impression that men can't be raped or sexually abused. Our guest today, Dr. Kelli Palfy, is here to dispel that myth and to give us the facts gleaned from her vast experience working in correctional facilities, the RCMP, and from her own doctoral research on why males don't report sexual trauma. Dr. Kelli shares about the painful stories of the men that she has interviewed and treated in her practice for her book Men Too: Unspoken Truths About Male Sexual Abuse. We talk about how males experience sexual abuse for the first time during childhood by teachers, coaches, clergy, and immediate family members, and how the abuse continues into adulthood. There is hope and healing for men who have experienced the shame and pain of sexual abuse. She is also writing 3 children's books about sexual abuse you can read to your children. This is a very important episode filled with valuable information on how you can help the male in your life heal.

Men Too: Unspoken Truths About Male Sexual Abuse
https://kellipalfy.com/
 kellipalfypsychology@gmail.com
Dr. Kelli Palfy began her professional career working in adult and youth corrections. During that time, she noticed there were a disproportionate number of males in the system. In 1996, she became an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officer and took an interest in investigating sex crimes. She later went on to specialize in sex crimes committed against children internationally, completing all the training needed to become a subject matter expert for the Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) unit in British Columbia, Canada. Here, as she combed through video evidence, she witnessed first-hand the grooming tactics commonly used by sophisticated pedophiles. After retiring from the RCMP, Dr. Palfy obtained her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Alberta. She conducted her doctoral research on the reasons why males don't commonly disclose sexual abuse. She is now a trained trauma therapist and public speaker on the topic of male sexual abuse.  She wrote Men Too: Unspoken Truths About Male Sexual Abuse to equip, empower and transform abused boys and men to heal and become who they were born to be.

Dance is a form of expression with the body. Dance can be used for entertainment, exercise, artistic expression, and worship. We have a real treat for you on today's podcast. Our guest is dancer, writer and storyteller Laura Padgett. We had an enjoyable time reminiscing about favorite dance performances, the challenges of dealing with our aging bodies, and healing from trauma. We continue our conversation with Pastor Jimmy Hinton this week, who had to turn his own father in to the police for pedophilia. Find out the sequence of events after Jimmy's father is arrested and placed in prison with a life sentence. Jimmy describes how pedophiles think and how they abuse and manipulate their victims even from prison. He defines the difference between grooming and testing. We find out why Jimmy calls sexual predators "wolves that will never become sheep". Jimmy talks very bluntly how we can protect our churches and children from predators, which does not include inviting convicted predators back into the church. We finish the conversation with the real requirements for forgiveness, according to Jesus. Do not miss part two of this interview!

How do you help a girl with a crisis pregnancy? Should you give money to the homeless man on the corner? We will find answers to these questions and more with our guest Suzanne Burns of Foundation House Ministries. Suzanne talks candidly about the inspiration behind starting Foundation House and her own crisis pregnancy. She shares the joys and challenges of running a maternity home: loving those with drug addiction, poverty, and sexual trauma; training the ladies to run a business, and eventually seeing girls come to know the Lord Jesus. We identify what exactly is a poverty mindset and how to get rid of that mentality. We finish the episode with a challenge to The Church and to Christians to become more trauma informed and reach this community with love, compassion and understanding, instead of condemnation. Suzanne's new book The Trauma Informed Church is tentatively scheduled for release April 2021.
