Also, hear about the history behind how DSW Ministries was started, some of Diana's musical background and influences, and how she had a musical identity crisis. BIO: A pastor and an apologetics nerd. Will wanted to start this podcast because of the Church Splits he had both witnessed and experienced. Having experienced first-hand division in the church over topics and issues where Biblical truth was pushed aside for opinions, Will saw a need to show Christians how to use the Bible not only to find truth, but to create unity in the Church. Will loves long-form podcasts and sees Christians craving for deep discussions on topics, pushing past the surface level arguments to truly discern what is the truth and why. What started as just a fun little hobby has turned into a ministry that Will pours his heart into.

Is your church a cult? My guest Will Hess wholeheartedly agrees that The Fundamental Baptist Church (a.k.a The IFB) he was raised in was a cult. He will share the story of how he suffered abuse from within his own family, as well as in his church. In this two part interview, here are the topics we covered this week:
Being raised in an IFB environment, but being abused at home in secret.
The legalistic culture if the IFB, the man made rules and twisting of the Scriptures.
Being bullied by the youth group leaders and college leadership.
The severe dating standards of the college. The inconsistent criteria for "approved workplaces".
How he met his Korean wife and fought against the racism directed at them.
Come listen to Will's powerful story!

How can we be more like Jesus in this world of pain, suffering, and evil? Is it our responsibility as Christians to care for the oppressed? The Rev. Dr. Marcia Ledford guides us in answering these kinds of questions with empathy and compassion. She candidly shares her upbringing in the Baptist church, her divine call to preach, and becoming a civil rights attorney. She once was given an ultimatum by her church to choose between her faith and who she is. She has tirelessly shown Christ's love by fighting for the rights of immigrants, sex trafficked victims, multiple cultures, races, and the LGBT community. She gives us practical advice on how to deal with a family member who has comes out with grace and love. Also, she explains why we shouldn't talk with loved ones about politics and religion. Our interview is filled with powerful storytelling, inspirational scripture verses, and valuable resources to change your community for Christ. A free course is offered for all the listeners!

A Spirituality of Resistance
Great resource for the spirituality of resistance. Roger writes about creation care, but the concepts are applicable to any issue. The spirituality of resistance involves doing the inner work to discover what your passions are. Then you join with others sharing these common goals to work for justice and the greater good.

Be sure to get the latest (third, I think) edition of this wonderful book. It’s about understanding our “embedded” theology, that which we grew up absorbing and believing,
As we grow up and grow in faith, we often realize that what we’re taught often doesn’t relate to our life. The authors, Stone and Duke are seminary professors. They do a great job writing about how we are all theologians, whether we have a bunch of letters after our names or not. That’s because we all must navigate our society, current events, and or daily life as people of faith. This is a great book for “evangelicals” and those who are “deconstructing” their faith.

Is there a difference between combat PTSD and First Responder PTSD? According to my guest, Norm Wielsch, your body recognizes them as the same thing. In my conversation with Norm, we hear about his father fighting during WWII and losing almost his entire family during the bombings. True to his father's generation and culture, he never spoke about his war trauma. Fast forward to Norm's service as a police officer, when he was diagnosed with a painful disease. We talk about how he went down the slippery slope with painkillers, hiding his condition with fellow police officers, and making poor choices. Find out what happens when he gets sent to prison, the lessons he's learned, and what God was doing in his heart through it all. Norm offers real and practical solutions for those suffering from PTSD.

BIO:
I was a agnostic police officer for over 25-years. I was exposed to many traumatic incidents. I was diagnosed with PTSD. Then I was diagnosed with an incurable debilitating neuro-muscular disease. I had over 25 surgeries in ten years. I was prescribed opioids for the pain. I soon began to abuse the opioids to relieve the negative emotions of PTSD. Then my daughter was diagnosed with liver tumors. This placed me in a downward spiral that led me to make some very poor decisions that led me to a 14-year prison sentence. Though divine intervention, my daughter and I were healed. I spent over 8 years in Federal prison where I taught how God heals PTSD. In prison, I obtained a masters degree in Theology and Counseling, then a doctorate in Christian Counseling. I went on to become a Registered Addiction Counselor, and am in process of becoming a Chaplain with the Assemblies of God Church. If you allow Him to so, God WILL change your mistakes and traumatic events into good. I am a great example of God's love.

When should you leave your church? Perhaps we should be asking God, "Should I stay?" instead. This is the second half of my riveting interview with Pastor Al Desheneau. We hear his story of being a young, green pastor, and pastoring churches filled with stubborn, legalistic people who didn't want to change or be pastored. Pastor Al candidly shares the joys, the trials, the exhaustion, and spiritual abuse that he and his family endured. Hear about the crazy circumstances leading up to his departure from the churches, and how God wonderfully provided for their needs after the exit. Find out about the new exciting ministry that Pastor Al started in the gaming industry! You don't want to miss part two with Pastor Al!

Have you been bullied? Then you must know how it feels to be alone, rejected, and friendless. My guest today is Pastor Al Descheneau, who shares the story of his upbringing in a transient Christian home. As always the new kid in school, he was subjected to frequent bullying and abusive treatment from his school mates. By the time he went to Christian college, he was an angry, antisocial kid who wanted nothing to do with people. Then one day, he had lifechanging break through in his spiritual life which spilled over very quickly into a vibrant social life. Pastor Al talks candidly about his conversations with God, serving the Lord and his calling into pastoral ministry. We have some fun talking about Christian culture, how media choices affects your mood, and cut through the churchy fluff false doctrine. Come hear part one of my my interview with Pastor Al.
