The Wounds Of The Faithful

Would you marry someone that called you ugly? Or treated you like a trolphy? Well, I almost did. This week I am continuing my story, during the second year of bible college. I started dating this Peruvian fellow in my Spanish church. You'll hear about how we met and started doing ministry together in the Spanish church and the bus ministry. I get candid on how purity culture can backfire and how God's grace can still use us and restore us when we stray from the path. I follow the events that led to the decision to call off the engagement. Unfortunately, I remembered some obvious racism in that church and explain what the Bible says about the subject. This week on the podcast, we are continuing with Part 5 of my story, where I reminesce about my first year in bible college. I talk about the culture of the church and the school, the dating scene, the legalistic standards, and the insane ministry schedule I kept. I started my formal voice and piano training and went on two foreign missions trips. I end with some of the things about the church and school that bothered me, but also remember the wonderful people who helped me out in tough times. Join me for the next leg of my journey!

Sometimes in our lives, circumstances seem so hopeless that ending it all appears to be the solution to end the pain. That happened to my guest Rob Decker, when he decided to end it all by jumping out of a third story window-and surviving the fall. We will find out about his childhood abuse, being raised by parents who were addicts, his path of self destruction, and making bad choices in relationships. You will hear about the series of events that led up to his attempted suicide and the miracles that followed during his recovery. Discover how God sent him a wakeup call to bring him to Jesus and His endless grace. Today, God uses Rob to help others overcome, hopelessness, addiction, suicide with his numerous ministries. Rob's primary objective is to share his story of a failed suicide attempt that led to a relationship with God. He suffered many years of sadness, anger, confusion and fed that with drugs, alcohol and bad relationships. With the help of God, he was able to turn his story into one of forgiveness, understanding, and love. His desire is to inspire, encourage, and give hope to those who have had similar battles.

Thanks for joining me on Part 4 of telling my life, my ministry, and abuse story. It starts out with moving back east to be closer to extended family. I enter the work force with a few challenging jobs, join my cousin's church, and finally get baptized. Learn why being overly vocal with your family about your new faith can backfire. I reminesce about the first woman that I helped escape from domestic violence, sharing Jesus with a Hindu coworker, and getting initated during my first time knocking on doors during visitation. At my first missions conference, I got called to be a missionary. I made a few friends with a couple church families and gain a benefactor to help me get through college.
