The Wounds Of The Faithful

We are continuing in my story this week, wrapping up the ministry in New Jersey as youth leaders. It begins describing the manipulative soulwinning practices in the church. What it was like to knock on doors in the most dangerous city in New Jersey? Find out how a church hired a family to replace us as youth leaders without even telling us. Hear about the scary time we thought the KKK were going to fire bomb our house. I also share how I survived the attempted suicide of my husband. The episode ends with new music I recorded, called "Your God Will Come".

We are continuing my abuse story this week on the podcast. Last time we left off during our time church planting in New Jersey as youth pastors. We're talking more about spiritual abuse and then adding financial abuse to the mix. Find out when I got "caught" trying to sing a Contemporary Christian song for a missions conference. What in the world is "Give It All Sunday"? You'll find out what it was like glutting out a hardware store and turning it into a church. We are continuing Bridget Seavey's incredible story this week. With the birth of her daughter, she realized she did not want the abuse to continue to the next generation. She shares the repeated verbal, physical and sexual abuse that she endured, and what was the catalyst for finally standing up for herself and establishing boundaries. When her husband filed for divorce and left them, The church kicked her out of the church once again. The abuse still continues as she is trying to start a new life for her and her daughter. Why would a church kick a young girl out of the church she loves when she reports she has been abused by someone in the church? This is actually quite common in churches, and it happened more than once to our guest Bridget Seavey. She was raised in the Fundamental Baptist Church and was assaulted as a young girl by a church leader. No one helped her when she reported the abuse. She married her now ex husband in the church who started abusing her during their honeymoon. Even after the black and blue marks showing all over her body, no one helped her. When she became pregnant with her first child, she hoped that things would change. This is Part One of Bridget's incredible story. Don't miss it!

Imagine being a survivor of multiple abuses from childhood, and then the therapist that you chose to help you to heal from that abuse, abuses you as well. This is exactly what happened to our guest Amy Nordhues. We talk about her childhood, how she found her therapist, and the events that led to the betrayal of her trust.
