We all know that Jesus suffered and died for us on the cross, but have you ever considered that Jesus can relate to those of us who are abuse survivors? We are exploring a different perspective of the life and death of Jesus-That he was an abuse survivor Himself. I talk about his birth, his ministry, his array of human emotions, the loss of loved ones, the religious leaders trying to destroy Him, his illegal trial, and being abandoned and betrayed by those closest to Him. Find out how Romans made crucifixion as humiliating and painful as possible. You will find that Jesus experienced many of the same sufferings that we have.

[00:00:33] Hello. Happy Easter everyone. I am recording this during Easter weekend, we just came from our Good Friday activity, which was stations of the cross. it's not the same as the Catholic stations of the cross. It's more of an interpretation. They use art, different [00:01:00] expressions of artistic forms, different mediums, and you go through the eight stations and there's bible verses.
[00:01:11] There's prayers and different things to think about. Sometimes there's music or sound effects. And every year it's different. It's really a great way to get into that meditative state where we're thinking about what God has done for us. And a celebration on Sunday, resurrection Sunday when he rose from the dead.
[00:01:44] I'm gonna try and put
[00:01:47] the pictures that I took on my Facebook page, DSW Ministries. So if you wanna look at those, you can. I'm not the greatest photographer. I just took them with my [00:02:00] phone. But hope that you enjoy those.

[00:00:37] How are you doing? It is definitely spring here as I'm recording. Got some new rose bushes for my garden and they are starting to bloom. That's exciting. It is time for my spring planting of vegetables. I do have to finish that today.
[00:00:58] Now, I did [00:01:00] have a couple of guests that I was supposed to interview this week. But they have rescheduled, due to family illness. And so we're going to continue with our character study on some prominent people in the Bible, some that have experienced abuse or some major trauma.
[00:01:21] And today we're going to talk about Hadassah, also known as Esther. And we're gonna look into her story and who this King Xerxes was and the nuances in that story. I have seen a couple movies on Queen Esther, and they're kind of irritating because the movies depict the marriage between Esther and Xerxes as a love story.
[00:01:57] And I totally disagree with that. [00:02:00] Maybe they're trying to keep the movie family friendly or they don't like the reality of this story. But I'm going to give you the honest truth here, history of what's going on in the book of Esther, and this is an important book. Now, it gets a lot of flack because the name God is not mentioned in the book.

[00:00:33] Hi everyone. Welcome back to the show. I hope that you are doing well. It has been a crazy week, hasn't it?
[00:00:42] I've decided to do this week's lesson on people in the Bible who have suffered abuse, prominent people in the Bible. You may have heard their story. You may only know some of their story, but not all of it.[00:01:00] I've decided to do this week's lesson on Bathsheba. It has been all over Twitter, and it drives me nuts because it is very plain in the text, very clear in the Bible if you're reading the Bible, that Bathsheba was raped.
[00:01:20] She was not having an affair with King David. And so we're going to explore that today and you'll see for yourself that Bathsheba was a victim. And I probably need to just get off of Twitter and quit reading those feeds. But it does make me angry when we've got, these preachers and leaders of churches that are being misogynistic, blaming women for everything, for every man's choice.
[00:01:51] Or, not letting David,
[00:01:53] Take the consequences for his bad choices, for his own sin.
[00:01:58] so get your [00:02:00] Bibles out if you wanna follow along. We are going to be in Second Samuel chapter 11,
[00:02:08] I'm reading from the ESV version. You can read whichever version that you enjoy. You'll still get the same conclusion.

EP 126: Transforming Personal Trauma into Complex and Likable Characters: Guy Morris

Guy Morris has led an extraordinary life. After escaping an abusive childhood at age 13 to become a homeless runaway, Guy worked alongside migrant workers before he earned three degrees by age 27, including acceptance to Harvard and scholarship award from University of Arizona for his innovations in building a macro-economic that out-performed the Federal Reserve. His career led him to international oil company Occidental Petroleum where he pioneered adoption  of early-stage AI systems and supported business deals worth billions. And I appreciate your support of this podcast financially and most of all praying for us here. And I know that you guys are praying for me because I have some even better news than last week. Brian got a phone call from Social Security Administration telling him that he was approved for permanent [00:01:00] disability benefits.
[00:01:02] And that was a huge surprise because we have been fighting for a year and a half to get that for him and we finally got it. And so that's a huge answer to prayer. And I know there are people listening that have some disability of some sort, and you're trying to get
[00:01:22] disability from the government because you can't work. It is really hard. It is super challenging and it's depressing and well
[00:01:32] I have friends that have been trying for years to get disability benefits and they've been denied and they appeal and get denied again.

[00:00:09] So that is a reminder for you today. I'm glad you're here. I hope that you enjoyed my interview with Eric Allen last week. He was a awesome conversationalist and had a powerful story. Now this week we're going back to our series on prominent people in the Bible, those who have suffered some abuse.
[00:00:31] The Bible has a lot to say about abuse, contrary to popular belief. So
[00:00:37] it took me a long time to decide who I was going to do this week because we have so many stories in the Bible that we can learn from, and I decided to pick Hagar because I'm familiar with the story. and I think there is some encouragement in there that people [00:01:00] don't always see. [00:00:29] Hi, everybody. Welcome. It is an honor to have you with me today. As we travel this journey together, healing from our trauma, our abuse.
[00:00:44] and maybe some other things. I hope that you enjoyed the podcast last week on healthy coping strategies. Did you try any of those? I know that I was in my garden this [00:01:00] morning just doing my pruning and watering and just cleaning up a little bit. We just had some cold weather where we had to cover up the plants, frost warning and so to speak.
[00:01:15] But now it is starting to warm up a little bit and I'm looking forward to the flowers all blooming and my vegetable garden, getting more heat loving vegetables.
[00:01:31] I do have tomato plants out there growing under the greenhouse, but they seem to really like the hot weather more than the cold weather. And I got some rose bushes. Now I have killed every rose we have ever owned. And I would say probably 20 rose bushes, they've all died. And there were several years that I [00:02:00] didn't buy any rose bushes. And it was,
