Rescuing Girls In The Sex Trade: Kenny Sacht: Part One
[00:00:00] Coming up next on the Wounds of the Faithful podcast.
[00:00:04] I saw these girls. There are 240 bars and over 12, 000 girls in Angela City, Philippines.
[00:00:12] So these are adult women, they're supposed to be, they can be minors, but they're supposed to be 18 years of age. Sex trafficking is illegal in the Philippines, and yet It's everywhere. On this street alone, this area, some bars have hundreds of these girls in them.
[00:00:29] So we go into the bars and Filipinos cannot go into the bars in the Philippines. Only foreigners can go in. And and that's why we do mission trips. We need Americans. We need foreigners. No matter what country you're from Canada, anywhere in Europe, all over the world.
[00:00:47] We get people coming and then we do these mission trips, and then we do teams and we get our Filipino staff with you, and we go into the bars and. And it's the foreigner it's they're the ticket to get in the bars. We go in we build [00:01:00] relationships you know during the week we feed meals. And so we have a very good reputation and God has just covered us.
[00:01:07] God has just been so gracious to us.

Christmas part one

[00:00:26] Now, here is Diana.
[00:00:33] Welcome everyone. Merry Christmas to everyone listening today. We're going to do a solo podcast today. It's been a while, hasn't it? We do still have part two of Ana Megrelishvili tomorrow on the podcast, but I wanted [00:01:00] to take some time to talk to you about the holidays to update you on some things and send you some Christmas thoughts. I will be doing a solo episode New Year's Eve also for you. I call it the State of the Podcast Address. Now, this is primarily for my regular listeners. You're still welcome to listen to it if you are new here, but It's going to be more things about my personal life and what is coming up for the podcast, some reflections on this particular year that's ending.
[00:01:40] So today I wanted to be there for you during this time when the holidays can be really tough. I have to admit to you that Christmas is not my favorite holiday. Not by a long shot. Now there are many reasons for [00:02:00] that, one being commercialism, of course, but the real answer for that is many terrible things happened on Christmas.
[00:02:11] One in particular is a death in the family. Actually, many deaths in the family. If you've been listening to my show for a long time, you know that I lost my oldest brother during the holidays in 2020. Maybe you have losses of loved ones this year. You don't know whether to mourn or to celebrate. Now,

I am sharing a profound story that has shaped my life in unimaginable ways. This journey, from despair to hope, is one I hope will inspire you as deeply as it has transformed me. My story begins in Moscow, Russia. When I was seven, my father lost his job and turned to alcohol, leaving my mother, who was financially dependent on him, to fend for us. Hunger became a constant companion. At eight, I collected bottles to buy bread and even stole food from classmates. This trauma of constant hunger haunted me into adulthood, making me stock my pantry excessively. Did you know that in the US, 34 million people, including 9 million children, live in food-insecure households? At nine, I was hospitalized with tuberculosis due to malnutrition. For the first time, I felt safe, away from the chaos at home. Our struggles worsened when we moved outside Moscow. We lived in a cramped apartment with my aunt's family, facing eviction threats due to my father's debts. My grandmother saved us by selling her jewelry for plane tickets, preventing us from becoming homeless. At 20, I came to the US on a scholarship. I climbed the corporate ladder, acquiring wealth but feeling something was missing. Four years ago, I had a profound spiritual experience, leading me to feed the hungry in Atlanta. This encounter sparked my mission to help others.

I'm [00:01:00] going to leave a link in the show notes for you to listen to our conversation, but, we felt it was a good match because, you know, he's talking about open wounds and my podcast is the wounds of the faithful.
[00:01:14] So.

So he is a pastor in Maricopa. That is about an hour or so south of me.

Why does God allow his people to suffer? What purpose is there is pain? We have Part Two of my conversation with Norm Wielsch, where we talk about these very important topics. What is one of the things that God hates?(It's not what you think.) We talk about another book he has in the works about the question of suffering. You will be encouraged and lifted up listening to Norm's experiences of loss and recovery.
Connect with Norm and purchase his books on his website:

Bio:
Norm Wielsch was a law enforcement officer for over 25 years. Sixteen of those as an undercover narcotic agent. He has experienced many traumatic incidents during his career. In 1998 he was diagnosed with an incurable neuro-muscular disease that caused the loss of feeling, mobility, and strength in his hands and feet. After over 30 surgeries he became addicted to opioids.
He was diagnosed with PTSD. Then his daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness with a poor prognosis. Due to his poor coping mechanisms that are against God's moral standards, Norm made a series of poor decisions that landed him in federal prison with a 14 year sentence.
It was during this most intense trial of his life, with the reality that he was going to go to prison for a long time, that he answered God's calling. Norm had been an agnostic all of his life, but he knew that God was calling him to minister to those people who were suffering from trauma, especially first responders.
While in prison, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Theology & Counseling, a Doctorate in Christian Counseling, and a California Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificate. He is currently working at a Men's Residential Treatment facility as a Registered Alcohol and drug Counselor and Pastoral Care Chaplain.
While in prison, Norm counseled many inmates with a variety of issues, preached God’s word in the chapel, taught Christian classes, and led bible studies.
Norm often speaks to those who are suffering from traumatic experiences including churches and addiction ministries.

We have Norm Wielsch from Episode 35 back on the show this week, promoting his new book: Healing A Broken Heart: Christ Centered Healing of Trauma. Be sure to go back to listen to his story if you haven't already. He talks candidly about having PTSD as a police officer. He then was diagnosed with an incurable, debilitating neuromuscular disease, having over 25 surgeries in 10 years. He was abusing the opioids to relieve the negative emotions of PTSD. On top of that, his daughter was diagnosed with liver tumors. This placed him in a downward spiral that led him to make some very poor decisions that led to a 14 year prison sentence.
Find out how he is doing today with his health, his family, and his new career in counseling. Hear how he is now helping others to heal who are struggling with abuse, trauma, PTSD, and addictions. We had an enjoyable and encouraging conversation filled with hope! Don't miss it.
Connect with Norm and buy his new book on his website:

Norm has a Master's Degree in Law Enforcement Management. He achieved the rank of commander prior to his arrest and has over ten commendations for outstanding service. Norm Wielsch is an expert in law enforcement tactics including: narcotic, enforcement, addictions and influence, criminal investigations, traffic collisions, pursuit driving, high risk search warrant service, report writing, PTSD, and the police culture.
