Welcome back to Part 4 of our series on How To Study The Bible For Abuse Survivors! Pastor Jason Harris is back on the podcast from Cairns, Australia! He and his Mom, Joy Harris, told their survival story of abuse on Episode 57 and 58. One of the reasons survivors stop reading the Bible, is that certain verses trigger them. Jason knows first hand what that's like, and he is going to show you how to deal with that. [00:00:00] Diana Winkler: That's me, your faithful friend, podcaster, Diana. Welcome back to our Bible study series. And today is gonna be awesome. Just like all of my other guests in the series, we have a return guest to the podcast, Jason Harris. And he was on episode 57 and 58. I interviewed him and his mom Joy about their abuse.

Mending the Soul was conceived in 2003 when Steve and Celestia Tracy and a handful of men and women met with a passion to comfort those broken by abuse. Because there were few resources available to address the complexities of abuse and neglect, Steve and Celestia published Mending the Soul: Understanding and Healing Abuse to educate on the nature and effects of abuse, and the Mending the Soul Workbook to guide survivors through an interactive and integrated process of healing and forgiveness in community with each other.
Together, the Tracys co-founded and co-direct Mending the Soul, mentoring and supervising collaborative teams of writers, artists, musicians, educators, students, mental health providers, and business professionals who create the sustainable healing models and curricula for Mending the Soul Ministries for global application.
Steve and Celestia have three grown children, who, with their families, partner with them in ministries of justice and mercy.
Steven R Tracy, Ph.D.
Steve is the President and International Director for Mending the Soul, and professor of theology and ethics at Phoenix Seminary where he has taught since 1995. He has also served as a church pastor for fifteen years. Steve’s research and writing are focused on biblical ethics, sexuality, and abuse. He received a B.A. from Arizona State, an M.Div. and Th.M. from Western Seminary and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the University of Sheffield (England) with a research focus on Pauline ethics. In addition to his domestic work, Steve, along with his wife Celestia, spend 4-8 weeks a year in East Africa coordinating and supervising international trauma training teams. Steve is the author of seven books and numerous book chapters and journal articles.

Quick Bio
I grew up in a Christian home have known Jesus since I was six years old. After a short time of teenage rebellion, I went to North American Bible College (Now Taylor College & Seminary) in Edmonton to “figure things out”. There, I rededicated my life to Jesus, met my wife, Anita, and was called into full-time pastoral ministry. Since then I’ve been serving Jesus’ in all areas of church life — preaching and teaching, writing, music, leadership development, small groups, tech, sound, graphic design, photography, video editing… whatever it takes to share Jesus and teach scripture in a creative and inspiring way!
In September 2020 a new chapter of my life started when God made it absolutely clear that he wanted me to give up looking for a new ministry position, stop seeking secular work, and dedicate myself full-time to serving as a missionary on the new frontier of global missions as a Twitch streamer. It’s been quite an adventure since then, but over the past months I’ve had God’s call affirmed in amazing ways as He’s changed people’s lives through my channel. When asked who he is, Paul likes to say "a child of God and ambassador of Christ",  because he's learned that these elements of his identity supersede and shape the rest.  One of the ways God has invited him to live out the call to "love God and love others" is through the "shepherding gift": providing pastoral support, creating space for conversation and community, and advocating for those that may go unseen.Functionally, he has spent the last two decades serving with various ministries, and now serves full time alongside YWAM in loving his neighbors in authentic ways.  He also loves to create, whether it is his podcast "Where did you see God", writings, or videos.  He loves spending time with his wife and kids, and they see their home -- which God gave them in a crazy way -- as an important piece of how they love their neighbors as a lifestyle.

Agape Garcia is going to tell her powerful story of childhood survival, defying all odds, and protecting her child from her abusive husband. She describes how she has risen above her trauma, learned to deal with those triggers, and helps others to be their incredible selves!

Garcia, over the past 35 years has navigated through domestic violence, privacy, safety, vulnerability, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. Her survival of a double attempted homicide while 8 months pregnant (by the father) and the desperation to survive became the catalyst to the foundation of BYIS while achieving an undisputed outlook of independence.  During her journey to overcome, Garcia learned that extreme independence is a trauma driven response and a natural one which can be defeated through focused, self awareness and intentional control.Through her own walk, harsh lessons brought on by extreme independence resulted in areas of her life being sabotaged repeatedly.  Her personal journey of post traumatic growth has led Garcia to dedicating her life in developing transformational programs, various forms of coaching, certification courses and establishing a nonprofit to help real time victims. Her commitment is to provide lifelong transformational habits that can restore your powerful internal sense of control. [00:00:31] Diana Winkler: Are you having a good day? It has been a weird day so far. It's never boring in this place. I went outside to water all the plants and make sure that the birds and the cat was watered and fed. And I heard the sounds of a horse whinnying. Now, [00:01:00] I know that none of my neighbors have horses, none of them that I know of have horses. So I'm on top of a hill so I can see the valley below me.
[00:01:13] And I see that my Northern neighbor has somebody on the side of the house with a truck and a horse trailer. And there was a horse in the trailer. And I thought, oh, okay, somebody's visiting with their horse for a few minutes. And I went back into the house and eating my breakfast and all of a sudden I hear
[00:01:39] the horse winnying pretty loud. I could hear it from inside the house. I ran outside and

Suzanne founded and leads a thriving maternity home, with multiple sites and social enterprise. Over 100 mothers housed and over 500 served through non-residential services.
